A look back: July 24, 1982
A Kline Township supervisor said yesterday a total of 464 drums containing toxic waste chemicals were removed from the McAdoo Associates site since Tuesday.
Casper Miorelli said the drums were removed by generators under the supervision of the state Department of Environmental Resources. Generators are firms where the wastes had been shipped from or the carriers.
The site at the top of the “mile hill” is one of 10 sites in Pennsylvania that has been declared eligible for federal “Superfund” money from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The $1.6-billion fund was created by Congress to help clean up illegal chemical waste dumps.
