A look back: June 11, 1962
Residents of Aquashicola and the vicinity responded generously to the village’s opening salvo in its campaign to raise $10,000 on Friday evening.
Evening Record newspapers with an all-Aquashicola front page were sold for a dollar bill, more or less, and a total of about $500 was realized. The village needs $10,000 to qualify for a $60,000 grant bequeathed by the late Allen R. Krill, and a community center is planned.
“Some gave more than a dollar, and some less,” a committeeman said. “In all, we distributed 1,500 Evening Records and have a few hundred left for those we missed.”
All costs of the project were borne by the newspaper.
