A look back: June 12, 1957
The second brother, Jimmy, of the internationally known Dorsey brothers, died this morning in New York City.
He was one of the most popular big band leaders of modern times, having teamed with his brother, Tommy, for years to give Americans some of the finest dance music ever played. Tommy died last Nov. 26.
Jimmy moved to Lansford at the age of 10 with their father, Thomas Dorsey, who started him playing the saxophone. His father worked in the mines for $10.20 per week and eventually rose to become supervisor of music in the Lansford public schools.
