A look back: June 21, 2008
The new Mary D Fire Company Sports Complex, located between the villages of Mary D and Tuscarora, was unveiled late Friday afternoon.
Nineteen community groups, businesses and organizations partnered in the nearly $450,000 project that will include a baseball diamond, soccer fields, bleachers, ice skating rink, walking path, parking and fencing.
The project took several years to complete and many local organizations played key roles. The Schuylkill Headwaters Association provided project oversight and took the lead in organizing the project on approximately 10 acres of abandoned mine land that was donated by the Blaschak Coal Corporation of Mahanoy City.
