A look back: June 26, 1992
Ruth Lobien of Jim Thorpe, believed to have the longest continuous career as a Carbon County employee (46 years), was honored Thursday by the Carbon County Board of Commissioners on her pending retirement.
Today is “Ruth Lobien Day” in the county, as proclaimed in a resolution adopted by the board in honor of the woman, a Summit Hill native who will retire on Tuesday.
Lobien is an accountant in the office of Controller Robert M. Crampsie, who presented the resolution to the honoree only moments after the three-man board approved it.
She began her work with Carbon County on Jan. 10, 1946, initially being a clerk in the office of then Recorder of Deeds Harvey Hiller.
