A look back: June 28, 1980
The son of a Jim Thorpe funeral director has been notified by the Pennsylvania State Board of Funeral Directors he has successfully passed his state board of funeral directors examination, thus becoming the fifth consecutive generation of his family to serve the Jim Thorpe area in that business.
He is Thomas N. Melber, son of Edward F. and Constance (Clay) Melber of 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe.
The new funeral director, who will continue to be employed by his father, was a member of the first class to graduate from the mortuary program, a three-year course in funeral service education of Northampton County Area Community College, in 1979.
