A look back: June 4, 1971
The late A/2C George M. Bevich Jr., who was killed by enemy gunfire while serving in Vietnam, was honored at a service held in Summit Hill on Monday.
The Summit Hill American Legion Post was renamed Davis Lawton Yurko Breslin Bevich Post 316 “as an everlasting tribute.”
Edward C. Kennedy, past Eastern Vice Commander of the American Legion, eulogized Bevich and presented his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Bevich Sr., a picture of their son in tribute.
Kennedy pointed out Bevich volunteered for service in Vietnam and was patrolling the outer perimeter of an air base when he was killed by enemy gunfire on Dec. 4, 1966.
