A look back: March 18, 1969
Richard G. Searles, president of the Lehighton Holding Company, announced yesterday the purchase of the Lehighton Evening Leader from Mrs. Marian A. Morthimer, publisher since 1942.
Other members of the holding firm are Frank E. Wehr, Summit Hill, Eugene S. Durigan, Mahoning Valley, John A. Turtzo of Bangor and Donald F. Stemler of Palmerton.
According to Searles, the new owners plan to retain the present staff, including Morthimer, who will continue in her capacity as managing editor. Other members of the staff are Robert Gouldner, editor; Sandra Rausch, advertising manager; Phyllis Long, clerk; and Gerald Eisenbach, sports editor.
