A look back: March 22, 1995

Published March 22. 2019 10:37AM

The Tamaqua Borough Council, on a 5-1 vote, last night appointed former Councilwoman Pat Stefanek to fill the vacancy created earlier this month by the death of Jim Wasson.

Supporting her appointment were Linda Yulanavage, Art Connely Sr., Lew Erbe, George Willing and George Wenzel.

Councilman Herman Lutz cast the lone no vote after attempting to nominate Ken Smulligan, president of the Tamaqua Save Our Station Committee, to the post.

Stefanek resigned from the council last fall to take a position with the Tamaqua High-Rise.

The appointment will expire at the end of the year, as the voters will elect someone in November to complete the final two years of Wasson’s term.
