A look back: March 28, 1983

The Rev. F. Peter Muhr, 109 N. Greenwood St., Tamaqua, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church in that community, has been selected “Citizen of the Year” by the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce.

Walter E. Kruczek, chairman of the election committee, made the announcement, saying 16 letters of nomination were received from various community organizations and Muhr was the choice of the majority of them.

“It was an easy selection for the committee this year,” said Kruczek. “Pastor Muhr was the choice. There really wasn’t much need for discussion.”

A native of Bethlehem, Muhr became the pastor of the Tamaqua church on Aug. 1, 1974, and has been an active force in the community since that date.
