A look back: March 3, 1955
James Evans, a senior at Weatherly High School, was awarded first honors in the Carbon County Boys’ Oratorical Contest held last night in the Lansford High School. His oration was titled “The Value of Home Work in Education.”
Other student orators included Edward A. Johnson, representing Jim Thorpe High School; Kenneth Rowe, Nesquehoning High School; Robert Montgomery, Lansford High School; Lewis Boynton, Lehighton High School; Robert Reber, Palmerton High School; and Bruce Frassinelli, Summit Hill High School.
Gordon Wilcox, English composition and speech instructor at the Hazleton Campus of Penn State University, served as judge. The master of ceremonies was Kenneth Forrest, principal of Summit Hill High School.
