A look back: March 5, 1984
The name of St. Joseph Hospital in Hazleton will be changed to St. Joseph Medical Center, according to a statement released by the board of directors of the 35-year-old institution.
The new name more accurately reflects the broader scope of health care services now being offered in a wider, more regional delivery area in the past, according to Sister M. Edwinalda, hospital administrator.
Frank J. Parano, corporate development officer, said the medical center concept will allow for the diversification and expansion of services that the community is seeking.
The hospital has been making an effort to offer a variety of walk-in health care services.
