A look back: May 15, 1953
It’s Dick Edwards’ birthday party now being celebrated at the firm’s Lansford and Lehighton stores, but the customers get the presents.
Edwards, who is observing his 62nd birthday today, cut a huge cake in which 62 silver dollars were placed. The cake was distributed to patrons.
In addition, the birthday celebrant sold 162 silver dollars for 62 cents each. Hidden in 62 of the many delicious cakes sold were 62 silver dollars. Every 62nd person entering the store will receive two free pairs of hosiery, and every 62 minutes, surprise specials are announced over the loudspeaker.
Edwards reminds you there are more than 62 other reasons why you should attend this special sales event, which will continue tomorrow.
