A look back: May 19, 1944

When the Packer Commandery No. 23, Knights Templar, held a banquet at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mauch Chunk, last night, Sir Knight Charles Wolfertz of Allentown, eminent captain general of the Grand Commandery of Pennsylvania, was the guest speaker.

Rev. A.C. Plantz, pastor, preached the sermon at the service which followed. At the entertainment which followed, Doris Welch sang several numbers with accompaniment by Mrs. Lynn Hoffmeier, and attorney Sidney Webb of Palmerton gave a demonstration of magic.

The committee in charge of the event included Winfield Solomon, chairman, Pierce Daffner and Samuel Sandherr.
