A look back: May 2, 1968

Striking union employees set up picket lines and stopped production at Quartite Creative Industries Inc. in the Green Acres Industrial Park, Nesquehoning. The work stoppage, the third one since the firm located in the area nearly seven years ago, affects about 200 workers.

The pickets, members of Local 1660, Textile Workers’ Union, voted to strike yesterday when negotiations broke off for a new work contract.

Joseph Zrinsky, Nesquehoning, president of the local, said the union is trying to negotiate for a new work contract to replace the two-year pact that expired at midnight Tuesday.
