Published May 04. 2018 12:52PM

The 1992 Easter Seals Telethon tote board showed a whopping $25,428 after airing for 12 hours on Blue Ridge TV-13 Saturday. After the final total was posted, all of the volunteers working at the studio broke out into a cheer.

Last year, the telethon raised $23,000.

Larry “Crazy Willie” Hillegass was the main host. He kept everyone in stitches with his wisecracks and crazy outfits. He was assisted by radio’s Bill Waschko, Darryl Seiwell, Tom Heinz, Joe Plechavy and John Seaman, the society’s president.

Easter Seals provides occupational, physical and speech therapies, as well as special equipment, including wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and equipment for bathing the disabled.
