A look back: May 7, 1979

The newly installed central sewage system in Walnutport is now officially in use. The first residence to connect onto the system is the Kyler Krause household at 123 Lincoln Ave., Walnutport.

Mike Newhart, plumbing inspector and systems manager in the borough, said although the Krause family now utilizes the central sewage facilities, pumping of the sewage to treatment facilities in Slatington hasn’t begun yet.

Presently, the sewage collected will be stored in a holding tank until more families connect. Pumping to Slatington could begin next week.

Work was done by the SA&R Construction Company of Pine Grove.
