A look back: Nov. 14, 1973
Tamaqua Borough Council last night named Sgt. Harry Wallaesa police chief, succeeding present Police Chief Charles Moyer.
Moyer presented his resignation to council on Oct. 9, 1973, after serving the force for the past 25 years. His resignation is effective February, but he will take vacation beginning Jan. 1, when Wallaesa will assume his duties. He will participate in a course of police supervision sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Police.
Wallaesa, of 313 Arlington St., Tamaqua, joined the force in September 1954, and he was promoted to sergeant in 1970.
He and his wife, the former Ellen Sproul, have two sons, Harry Jr. and Russell.
