A look back: November 25, 1977

The true spirit of the Thanksgiving season was demonstrated Wednesday when the Rev. Paul J. Spohn was feted at a surprise testimonial in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lehighton.

In appreciation of his outstanding service as pastor for the past 10 years, he was honored following the community’s annual Thanksgiving service. He also serves as dean of the Hazleton-Lehighton Lutheran District.

The guest speaker was the Rev. William Handges, pastor of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Lehighton, who spoke inspiringly of the “Gifts of God.”

Spohn was presented a star design patchwork quilt that was started by his grandmother and adopted by the women of the parish who completed it in time for the happy occasion.
