A look back: November 9, 1957
A youth forestry camp, with living facilities for 20 people, is being established at Hickory Run State Park.
It will occupy the manor house in which Gen. Harry C. Trexler, one-time owner of Hickory Run, once lived. The building will also house a small kitchen and a small mess hall.
Three youths have already been assigned to the camp and are assisting park employees in renovation of the house. They are living in Gower House with the camp’s director, Ortis Danforth, who has eight years of experience in working with delinquent youths. He said youths attending the camp will be between 15-18 years of age.
