A look back: Oct. 1, 1976

The Carbon County Postmasters’ Association honored two of its retiring members during a dinner program held at Henning’s Hotel, Albrightsville.

They are Gerald L. Haggerty, Jim Thorpe, and George R. Rex, Ashfield.

Haggerty will retire on Oct. 22 after 34 years of service. He was appointed postmaster in May of 1948, succeeding the late Harold W. Richards.

Rex retired on Aug. 13 after 33½ years of service. He followed the footsteps of his late father, George S. Rex.

The guest speaker was Harvey O. Eck, Emmaus postmaster, who is the state president of the National Association of Postmasters.

No successors to the retiring postmasters have been named to date.
