A look back: Oct. 11, 1968

Official action was taken against the borough manager ordinance last evening at the regular meeting of the Jim Thorpe Borough Council.

The abolition of the borough manager’s position came on a 5-2 vote with August Long, George Lines, Edward Nonnemacher, Harry Pry and President Andrew Malinchoc voting on the plan, which also called for the borough hiring an administrator instead of a borough manager. Strongly opposing the action were James Marzen and George Hinger, who both stressed the manager was needed to oversee the town’s facilities, upkeep and general functions.

The borough has been without a manager since the resignation of Walter H. Niehoff in July.
