“The best protection is early detection” was the theme of the annual Breast Cancer Tea sponsored by St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, and held at The Lantern, Nesquehoning.

About 50 women attended the luncheon in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness and heard Dr. Joanne Calabrese discuss the most up-to-date information on breast cancer detection and treatment.

She stressed that women, especially older women, need to keep screening for the disease, saying mammography is still the best tool for detecting breast cancer.

Among those participating were Sharon Oravec, nurse manager of oncology, Anita Hiles and Barbara Porambo, technologists, and Frances Monchak, volunteer.
