A look back: Oct. 23, 1983
Charles Shutt, adjutant of the Lehighton American Legion Post, was honored at a testimonial dinner for giving 50 years of service to the Legion, the community and the nation.
Shutt, who was the second commander of the post in 1919, was presented various gifts, including a key to the community by Lehighton Mayor Clinton Williams, who praised Shutt for his service to his “town and country during war and during peace.”
Commissioner Albert U. Koch, a former neighbor of Shutt, was among the speakers honoring Shutt. Bill Wilson of Franklin Township served as master of ceremonies for the program, which was attended by more than 100 people.
