A look back: Oct. 24, 1985

The Lansford-Coaldale Joint Water Authority yesterday voted unanimously to have their solicitor, attorney Thomas S. McCready, file legal action against the Tonolli Corporation, a lead-reclamation firm in the Nesquehoning Valley, the state Department of Environmental Resources, the agency’s Water Quality Broad and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Harry Vadyak of Lansford, chairman, said the board took the action because of a “lack of response” from the state agency in regard to questions the authority sought about Tonolli’s contamination, considering Tonolli’s property, including an existing landfill on site, is located adjacent to the authority’s land in Hauto.
