A look back: Sept. 20, 1995

Construction of the area’s newest motion picture theater has begun. The Mahoning Valley Cinemas, located at the Carbon Plaza Mall in Lehighton, is now under construction with a planned opening in December, just in time for the holiday movies.

Palmerton-based George T. Schmidt Construction has been awarded the contract for the multiplex cinemas complex and architectural aspects are being handled by Benjamin L. Walbert Architects and Planners of Allentown.

Co-owners of the cinemas are Ferdinando Iannarelli, who has over 20 years in the theater business, and Dr. David Yanoff, local orthopedic surgeon.
