A look back: Sept. 27, 1964
Impressive ceremonies were held by members of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Congregation in North Weissport, when they laid the cornerstone for their new $90,000 church building.
It will replace the building destroyed by fire on May 12, 1962, and is expected to be completed in December. The new building is being constructed on a 3-acre plot of ground in Franklin Township.
The site for the church was blessed on July 21, 1963, with the groundbreaking ceremonies having taken place on Dec. 2, 1963. The construction of the church started last April 8.
The Rev. Edwin L. Druckenmiller, pastor, cemented the stone in place after it was placed by Harry E. Wert, Lehighton contractor.
