State and local officials broke ground for the 100-unit apartment building that will be built in the 400 block of East Bertsch Street where the Jack L. Honig building now stands.
Lamont McClure, project coordinator for the Carbon County Housing Authority, described the proposed building as a 400-by-150-foot L-shaped structure which will be six stories tall.
Among those participating in the groundbreaking ceremony were Sen. James Rhoades, Rep. Keith McCall, commissioners Albert Koch and Charles Wildoner, Lansford County President Masha Krajcirik.
The $5 million project is expected to be completed in June 1984.
