Lower Towamensing to hear meat processing plant appeal

The Lower Towamensing Township Zoning Hearing Board will hold a public hearing Tuesday on a proposal for a meat processing plant in the township.

Steward Herfurth Jr. is proposing to use a 10-acre section of property located on the east side of 2160 Hahns Dairy Road for a meat processing plant.

The township zoning ordinance does not allow a slaughterhouse as a permitted use in the R-C Zoning District where the parcel is located.

The hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lower Towamensing Township Municipal Building, located at 595 Hahns Dairy Road, Palmerton.
