Published October 19. 2019 05:34AM

Five Lehigh Valley Health Network hospitals are being honored as part of the inaugural class of The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania Excellence in Patient Safety recognition program.

Lehigh Valley Hospital−Cedar Crest in Allentown, LVH−Muhlenberg in Bethlehem, LVH−Hazleton in Hazleton, LVH−Pocono in East Stroudsburg and LVH−Schuylkill East Norwegian Street in Pottsville all have received the HAP Excellence in Patient Safety Recognition for 2018. LVH−17th Street and LVH−Schuylkill South Jackson Street are licensed under two of the hospitals that are being recognized and were included in the HAP data assessment.

HAP launched the Excellence in Patient Safety program during 2018 to recognize top-performing Pennsylvania hospitals that have demonstrated low rates of health care-associated infections. It identifies and recognizes member hospitals that perform better than the mean standardized infection ratio across the state in three key measures: central line-associated bloodstream infection, catheter-associated urinary tract infection, and clostridium difficile infections. LVHN’s hospitals are among 24 hospitals being recognized this year.

The recognition is open to all Pennsylvania hospitals. A full list of winners can be found at www.haponline.org.
