Mahanoy woman, son die in crash with tractor-trailer
A Mahanoy City woman and her infant child were killed when the minivan they were in collided with a tractor-trailer Tuesday afternoon in Northumberland County.
Coal Township police said the crash occurred around 5:25 p.m. along Route 54. Police said a Toyota van was being driven west on Route 54 when it began to slide on the snow-covered highway and entered the opposite lane where it collided with an oncoming tractor-trailer.
Two people in the van — Keyla M. De Los Santos, 27, and her son, Jonathan Anthony, who was 29 days old — died at the scene of the crash, according to Northumberland County Coroner James F. Kelly. A third person in the van was taken to a hospital in critical condition while a fourth person suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police said their investigation is continuing and that additional information, including the identities of the driver of the truck and the two injured occupants of the van, will be released at a later date.
