Mahoning names fire, ambulance companies

Published February 28. 2020 12:33PM

Nearly two months after its annual reorganization meeting, the board of supervisors of Mahoning Township formally recognized its fire and ambulance companies.

The recognition simply names the companies — Mahoning Volunteer Fire and Mahoning Ambulance — as the township’s official emergency responders. It was initially delayed because supervisors needed to adopt a new regulation, requiring volunteer members to get permission before attending nonemergency events, like fundraisers or parades.

The resolution, which covers fire volunteers in case of an accident, was ratified at the supervisors meeting Wednesday night, bringing Mahoning up to date with current workers’ compensation law. A separate, but similar, resolution was also approved to regulate the ambulance company, which is staffed by both volunteers and paid members.

Supervisors accepted a quote from Hartman Contracting for the demolition of a building located adjacent to the township office. The quote totals just over $14,600.
