The Mahoning Township board of supervisors addressed the following matters during Wednesday’s meeting:

Vice Chairman John Wieczorek and Supervisors Bruce Steigerwalt and Robert Slaw will be attending National Incident Management System training from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Carbon County Emergency Management Agency.

Mahoning Police officers Tyler Meek and James Danner were approved to attend the Pennsylvania Narcotic Officers’ Association Conference from April 4 to 6 in Harrisburg. The total cost, including lodging, amounts to $454, which will be paid with forfeiture funds from the district attorney’s office.

“It’s a drug training conference. There’s also certification for testing, handling of drugs, and best practices when dealing with drug investigations,” Police Chief Audie Mertz said.

Chairman Franklin Ruch and Steigerwalt met with a representative from Asplundh to discuss spraying for weeds along the township’s guide rails. Ruch said that they are waiting for a contract price for the job, though they will also be able to secure Asplundh for tree trimming efforts at an as yet undetermined hourly rate.

The board tabled a vote on the advertisement of Act 172, an Earned Income Tax Credit for emergency workers. Solicitor Thomas Nanovic recommended that the supervisors review the measure before a vote to advertise it. The supervisors agreed to set the limit for the credit at $200.

Fritz Valley Road will be closed for repairs starting March 5. Detour routes will include Mahoning Mountain Road, Church Hill Road and Bensalem Road.
