Mallard Markets gets OK for liquor license
Mallard Markets in Lehighton has been given the green light to sell liquor on its premises.
On a unanimous vote, borough council on Monday approved a resolution for the transfer of a liquor license from Shrikbj, Carbon Mini Mart 2, 577 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, to the business at 161 S. Second St. in Lehighton.
Mallard owner Karan Patel was joined at the hearing by attorney Joe Mashinski, along with several supporters.
Mashinski said the business wants to offer its patrons takeout 12-packs and 6-packs of beer.
He said eight to 10 new jobs would be created, and that the employees would be Responsible Alcohol Management Program certified.
Mashinski also said that the business plans to utilize new and improved technology that scans IDs to ensure that customers who purchase the takeouts are at least 21 years old.
“This isn’t a bar,” Mashinski said. “It would have limited hours of operation.”
He said this is merely an add-on for the business to be able to compete with bigger stores such as Giant.
Mashinski said right now the plan is for the business to just sell beer and see how it goes from there.
