Man admits to sexual assault that occurred 40 years ago
A Schuylkill County man admitted in Carbon County court on Thursday afternoon to sexually assaulting a young girl about 40 years ago.
David Paul Hunsicker Jr., 53, of Frackville, pleaded guilty to one count each of indecent assault and indecent exposure.
However, Hunsicker is facing even more serious sexual assault charges from incidents that occurred about 27 years ago. Jim Thorpe police filed the charges in both cases.
According to the affidavit of probable cause this is what happened:
On June 25, Detective Lee Marzen received a walk-in complaint at the police station from a woman who said that she had contact with Hunsicker in 1979 or 1980.
The victim said that was near her home on South Avenue, which was in the same area of Hunsicker’s family garage on the 600 block of South Avenue.
She said that sometime when she was 9 or 10 years old, Hunsicker, who was 13 years old at the time, had exposed himself to her and asked her to touch his private area, but that she didn’t know what to do, so she did.
Hunsicker then asked her to show him her private area, but she said she was scared and didn’t know what to do, so she complied.
She said that right after she did so, Hunsicker asked her to join his “sex club,” which he told her was behind the Bus Road, but that she told him no.
On July 8, Marzen attempted to interview Hunsicker at the Carbon County Correctional Facility and told him the reason he wanted to speak with him.
Hunsicker said that he didn’t want to talk to Marzen.
Second case
Hunsicker is also charged in another pending case with assaulting a young Jim Thorpe girl on multiple occasions between 1992-96 at a home on the 200 block of North Avenue.
In that case he is facing 22 counts, 12 of which are felonies.
He is charged with counts such as rape of mentally ill, rape of a person less than 13, statutory rape, statutory sexual assault, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age and corruption of minors.
That case is pending.
President Judge Roger N. Nanovic accepted the pleas and deferred sentencing since the charges fall under the provisions of Megan’s Law. Hunsicker will be evaluated by the state sexual offenders assessment board to determine if he is a violent sexual predator. If it is determined he is, then he must register for life as a sexual offender. If not, the registration period is 15 years.
Nanovic also ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.
Hunsicker has been an inmate in the county prison since his arrest in June, unable to post bail.
