A worker at a Nesquehoning pizzeria suffered severe burns this morning in what was believed to have been caused by a gas leak.

Shortly after 11 a.m. fire companies from numerous Carbon County communities were dispatched to a commercial structure fire at Rosetta’s Pizzeria at 209 West Catawissa street.

Police and first responders found a male employee with burns of the head, face, hands and arms. He was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics before being flown by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley hospital burn unit.

According to reports from the scene, the employee was making a pizza in the oven and when he opened the door to check on it, there was an explosion.
