Man charged with heroin, marijuana possession

An Albrightsville man has been charged with possession of a large amount of heroin and marijuana.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Cpl. Larry McDaniel of the Pennsylvania State Police, Troop N — Fern Ridge:

While on patrol at 9:51 p.m. Sept. 8, McDaniel observed a tan 2004 Ford F-150 going northbound on South Old Stage Road at McKuen Way, Penn Forest Township. The van didn’t have a registration plate or a functioning center brake lamp.

A traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle. McDaniel approached the truck and spoke with the driver.

McDaniel recognized Mitchell Peters, 23, who was seated in the front passenger seat from past drug/narcotic related arrests.

McDaniel knew Peters has a medical marijuana card, and asked him if he was in possession of any medical marijuana, which he denied.

Peters had a metal marijuana grinder with marijuana, a sandwich bag containing multiple bundles of heroin; a plastic bag containing a small amount of marijuana; four suboxone strips; a digital scale and a plastic tube containing 49 Percocet tablets.

Peters was taken into custody without incident.

During a search, Peters was found to be in possession of eight additional bags of heroin in his pants pocket and $610.

Peters told police that he was going to take the Percocet tablets to Hazleton and trade them for six bricks of heroin.

Peters also had suspected methamphetamine, which was folded in a dollar bill within his wallet.

A total of 188 white glassine baggies containing suspected heroin were seized.

Peters faces charges of manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver; intentional possession of a controlled substance by person not registered; marijuana-small amount personal use; and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $250,000 bail, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Oct. 9 before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
