A Kunkletown man has been charged after he threatened to kill his girlfriend and her son and then bury them in their backyard.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Justin Swartz of the Pennsylvania State Police, Troop N Lehighton Patrol Unit:

At 8:01 p.m. Feb. 4, state police were contacted about issues with her boyfriend who left the scene in the 100 block of Creek Drive, Kunkletown.

Upon arrival, Swartz spoke with the victim, who said that her boyfriend, Michael Chlopik, 35, kicked the residence door open and entered into a verbal argument at the residence about his firearms and some of the locks on the house being changed.

The victim said that Chlopik, during the course of the argument, pushed her in the kitchen and caused a mark to her lower leg.

The argument continued, and Chlopik said he was going to shoot the victim, along with her 9-year-old son, and that he would bury them both in the backyard.

The victim said that Chlopik then left the scene in his pickup, and that he was highly intoxicated.

State police checked the area for Chlopik, but couldn’t find him. Chlopik’s mother arrived and she unsuccessfully attempted to call him back to the scene.

The victim was interviewed again on Wednesday due to another incident at this residence and said that Chlopik came back to the residence.

At 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, Chlopik was interviewed at the Lehighton barracks, and said that he arrived at his residence, kicked the door in, and argued a little with the victim before going to bed.

For that case, Chlopik faces charges on two counts of strangulation, and one count each of endangering welfare of children, simple assault, criminal mischief, and harassment.

Chlopik also faces charges for a separate case on Wednesday.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Joseph Burke of the Pennsylvania State Police at Lehighton:

Burke responded to the same home for a report of a physical domestic.

Upon arrival, Burke made contact with the victims, who said that Chlopik was either inside a detached garage or his mother’s home, both of which are located at the rear of the main home.

After multiple attempts to make contact with Chlopik, he attempted to flee out a rear door of his mother’s home and was apprehended.

He said that he, his girlfriend and her son had gotten into an argument.

Burke spoke with the woman, who said that Chlopik arrived at the home at around 7:30 a.m. and had slashed three of her tires with a knife.

The woman said she went back inside the home and Chlopik followed her, asking about his firearms.

While walking through the hallway, the woman said Chlopik grabbed her by the hair and throat and began choking her.

The woman said they went into the bedroom and Chlopik started pushing her.

She said her son began yelling at Chlopik, at which time he began choking her son.

The woman said Chlopik then pushed her son and he hurt his face.

Burke spoke with the woman’s son, who said he yelled at Chlopik when he was pushing his mother, and that Chlopik then went after him and began choking him.

The son said Chlopik shoved him, and he hit his head on something, which gave him a red welt on the left side of his face.

For that case, Chlopik faces charges on two counts of terroristic threats and simple assault, and one count of harassment.

Chlopik is currently incarcerated in the Monroe County Correctional Facility, with bail at $15,000 in each case.

You should incorporate this into your thinking that people who are unstable, who use drugs or drink alcohol will have diminished or no self control. Read that sentence again.
Men can escalate quickly. When men were questioned about their biggest fear in a relationship it was "being laughed at" .... a woman's was a "fear of getting killed."

During the News Report of his Arrest the DA stated > " One half of the homicides here in the last 2 years were because of Domestic Violence.
