Man charged with threatening to shoot his wife, pit bull

A Walnutport man has been charged after he allegedly threatened to shoot his wife and their pit bull during an argument.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Sgt. Philip Mirabile of the Lehigh Township Police Department.

Mirabile was dispatched to Timberline Road for a domestic in progress.

The resident Northampton County Dispatch that she wanted the firearms removed from the residence because her husband pointed a gun at her the other night and threatened to kill her.

Mirabile asked the woman to meet him outside the residence. Instead David McCloud, 54, walked outside and said his wife was intoxicated and telling dispatch that he pointed a gun at her.

McCloud said his wife is an alcoholic and uses a lot of prescription medications.

He said that he was sleeping on the couch and his wife came out of the bedroom screaming at him.

McCloud said his wife consistently accuses him of cheating, and that they only had a verbal argument on this night.

Mirabile asked McCloud why his wife accused him of pointing a firearm at her, and he said that he had the gun out the other night because he was leaving the residence to sleep in his vehicle.

McCloud said that his pit bull is protective of his wife and bit him in his back, so he pointed a gun at the dog because he was afraid he would attack him again.

McCloud said that he probably shouldn’t have, but pointed the gun at his wife’s head because he “hates” her.

McCloud claimed that the gun, a 38-caliber revolver, was unloaded, and believes the incident occurred on Jan. 6 or Jan. 7.

The woman Mirabile that McCloud pointed the revolver at her head and threatened to kill her and the dog.

She also told Mirabile that she contacted the police because they were arguing and she wanted them to remove the weapons from the residence.

McCloud was placed in custody and transported back to the station.

Three long guns and the 38-caliber revolver were removed from the residence.

McCloud faces charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and harassment.

He is currently incarcerated in the Northampton County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Jan. 24 before District Judge Robert A. Hawke of Walnutport.
