Man facing charge in Monroe shooting was unregistered sex offender

A Lehigh County man facing a firearms charge in a fatal double shooting in the Poconos was an unregistered sex offender at the time.

Pennsylvania State Police at Stroudsburg said that on Dec. 7, the Pennsylvania State Police Troop N — Major Case Team conducted a homicide investigation that occurred Dec. 3 on Silver Maple Road in Chestnuthill Township.

Eric Gulley, 41, of Allentown, was charged with firearms violations along with hindering apprehension or prosecution and tampering with physical evidence.

During this time, Gulley was identified as an active sex offender out of Essex County, New Jersey.

However, Gulley was living in Allentown and working in Bethlehem, and failed to register as a sex offender with the Pennsylvania State Police.

On Jan. 30, the Pennsylvania State police obtained a warrant of arrest for Gulley.

On Wednesday, Gulley was taken into custody by the Allentown Police Department.

The Dec. 3 shooting resulted in the deaths of Dylan Beinert, 22 and Khalil Durante, 23.

Beinert died at the scene and Khalil Durante later died at a hospital, while his father Walter Durante was left in critical condition.

According to state police, three men traveled to the home to steal money and marijuana from Beinert.

Suspects in the case are Zaire Unique Burkett, 20, of Whitehall, Harrith Saleem Brown, 23, who was caught by U.S. Marshalls in the Bronx, New York, and a co-defendant, 21-year-old Matthew Burke of East Stroudsburg, who confessed to shooting Beinert and the Durantes, according to court documents.

Deani Powell, 19, of Easton, is accused of helping to set up the victims under the guise of buying drugs, and on the night of the shooting provided the accused shooters with information about the location of drugs and guns inside the house.
