Man with felony charged with possession of firearm

A Slatington man with a felony for statutory rape has been charged with possessing a firearm.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Stephen Kiefer of the Slatington Borough Police Department:

Kiefer was dispatched on May 19 to the 400 block of West South Street for a man, Jason Troxell, 40, who wanted to harm himself.

Once on scene, Kiefer made contact with Troxell’s wife, who showed him a text from Troxell that said, “Give the kids a hug (and) kiss for me.”

Troxell’s wife said that they had an argument and she left the house about 20 minutes before police were dispatched.

She said she forgot her gun at the house, and that when she came back, Troxell was gone and so was her gun.

She said that she attempted to contact Troxell, but he wouldn’t answer her phone calls, just text.

While on scene, another family member arrived and said they got a text from Troxell that he was in the woods behind his house.

Kiefer was able to get Troxell out from the woods, and he denied having the gun and said that he can’t have a gun because he is a felon and is not to possess one.

Troxell was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital by EMS.

His dad said that Troxell was texting him and told him the gun was in the woods, so Kiefer and Pennsylvania State Police went behind the house and recovered a HI-Point 9 mm with one round in the chamber and seven rounds in the magazine.

State police did a weapons check confirming that the weapon belonged to Troxell’s wife, and Kiefer confirmed with Lehigh County Radio that Troxell does have a felony of the second degree of statutory rape.

Troxell faces charges of persons not to possess, use, manufacture, control, sell or transfer firearms.

He is currently incarcerated in Lehigh County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing June 5 in Lehigh County Central Court.
