A Nesquehoning man who had drugs in his system when he crashed his vehicle on the Mansion House Hill in Jim Thorpe is scheduled to appear in court.

Mason Mahoney, 23, of the 300 block of E. Catawissa Street, faces several DUI controlled substance charges, and impaired ability and careless driving charges.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Tyler Meek of the Mahoning Township Police Department:

At 7:40 a.m. April 12, Meek was dispatched to Mauch Chunk Street (Mansion House Hill) for a one-car motor vehicle crash.

Meek spoke with the driver, who identified himself as Mahoney. Meek said he seemed confused as to the time of day.

His pupils were constricted, and his speech was slurred.

Mahoney admitted to taking a suboxone at 8 a.m.

Meek then told Mahoney it was before that time.

Mahoney also had difficulty standing on his own, and was transported to Lehighton Hospital by EMS.

At the hospital, Mahoney was asking questions that did not make sense, and asked if police would take him back to his vehicle on the Mansion House.

Mahoney told Meek that he takes other medications as well.

Meek read Mahoney his chemical warnings, and he agreed to submit to the blood draw, which revealed amphetamine, methamphetamine, nordiazepam, chlordiazepoxide and buprenorphine-free. Mahoney is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 1:15 p.m. June 27 before District Judge Eric Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
