Man identified in Beltzville drowning

A Philadelphia-area man lost his life on Sunday while swimming at Beltzville Lake.

Emergency crews were called to the boat rental area of the lake shortly after 2 p.m. for a possible drowning.

Carbon County Coroner Robert Miller said this morning that the victim was Xin Huang, 29.

Miller said Huang was at Beltzville with his family and went out to a floating toy to help a child.

He couldn’t swim and didn’t realize how the lake drops off, Miller said.

Miller said there was a language barrier but a relative of Huang interpreted for them.

Alma Holmes, Beltzville State Park manager, said Monday, “Our hearts go out to the family.”

Franklin Township and Lehighton fire companies with crews and Lehighton’s dive team were at the scene.

A search was conducted of the water and the man’s body was found around 3 p.m. toward the breast of the dam.

An investigation into the drowning is continuing.

Attempts to reach Franklin Township Fire Company were unsuccessful as of press time.

I u understand going in to help but if u cant swim call for help I'm sure there were hundreds of people there to help most r good people
Maybe try reading the "No Swimming" sign(s) for starters. If people would stick to the designated swimming area this wouldn't happen. When the gates are closed many of these visitors just go to a cove down the road or around the other side of the lake, not thinking about the danger of the drop offs. Sad result of overcrowding.
“Our hearts go out to the family.” Of course. But better yet, get control of the park. We have been saying that for 10 -15 years now. '....Overcrowding or over capacity is a good problem to have the 100k plus brain trusts at DCNR say. Most people saw something like this death coming but DCNR management. I believe in person responsibility and the kid should not be out there, nor the father, but if this death eventually plays out in the courts, it will be very interesting top see what a jury would do.
Right away someone brings up the courts and blames the state for this man's tragic drowning. Yes the park needs better control but it is hardly the responsibility of anyone else but the victim for the dangerous situation into which he put himself.
