A man was rescued Monday evening from a remote area north of Lansford.

The incident began shortly before 5 p.m. when a resident heard a cry for help coming from a heavily wooded area north of Dock street.

Firefighters from Lansford, Summit Hill and Coaldale were dispatched to the scene. Rescuers were able to determine the man was on the side of the mountain north of Lansford.

Firemen were able to reach the man by opening an access gate off Edgemont road to a dirt lane. Rescuers used four wheel drive trucks and all terrains vehicles to removed the male from the mountain.

The victim was treated at the scene by members of the Mahoning Valley ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before being transported to an area trauma center. Lansford police are investigating the incident.
