Published May 01. 2018 11:32AM

A Schuylkill County man was jailed on Monday on assault and related criminal counts after he threatened a neighbor with a large ax.

State police at Frackville said Corey Michael Cromyak, 31, of New Philadelphia, has been charged with aggravated and simple assault, terroristic threats, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.

According to troopers at 2:50 p.m. a female resident of Valley Street was walking her dog when Cromyak appeared with a large ax and raised it toward her in a menacing manner. The woman fled to her residence while Cromyak used the ax to destroy a camp fire ring.

Troopers arrived on scene and took Cromyak into custody.

He was arraigned by on-call District Judge James K. Reiley, of Pottsville, and committed to the county prison after failing to post $15,000 straight cash bail.
