Man told police he broke into house to smoke pot

Tamaqua police charged Mackenzie Smith, 21, of Blue Mountain Drive, Andreas, in connection with a break in on Aug. 9.

Officers were called about a possible trespassing situation at 110 Market St. shortly before 9 p.m. At the home they found Smith, who admitted breaking in through a rear door. Smith said he knew no one was home and decided to use the home to smoke marijuana and have a few beers with friends.

He was arrested and arraigned on charges of burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief. Bail was set at $15,000 cash, which he was unable to post.

Smith was transported to the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville.
