Man wanted on outstanding warrant faces drug possession charges

A Palmerton man wanted on an outstanding warrant faces drug possession charges.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Dane O’Brien of the Palmerton Borough Police Department:

At 12:06 p.m. Dec. 13, O’Brien while on patrol traveling eastbound on Route 248, observed a silver pickup traveling at a high rate of speed.

O’Brien stopped the 2014 silver Dodge 1500 at the Palmerton exit outbound ramp.

O’Brien made contact with the driver, John Della-Vecchio, 60, and requested his driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance.

While Della-Vecchio was searching for the requested documentation, O’Brien noticed that the vehicle’s inspection and emission stickers were expired as of March 2019.

Della-Vecchio provided the requested documentation identifying him by his state driver’s license.

Upon verifying the information, it was found that Della-Vecchio was suspended for no reason given, and has an outstanding warrant out of the Carbon County Sheriff’s Department for failure to appear.

As a result, Della-Vecchio was then taken into custody without incident, and a search was conducted that resulted in locating one silver flashlight in his front right pocket.

Upon disassembling the item, a green glassine bag was located with white crystal like substance within.

As O’Brien approached Della-Vecchio about the discovered item, he denied ownership.

He was later committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility on the outstanding warrant.

Vecchio faces charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, maximum speed limits and expired inspection.

He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Feb. 12 before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.
