A McAdoo man will spend up to 20 years in state prison for sexually abusing a boy for years, starting when the child was 9 years old.

Schuylkill County Judge Charles M. Miller sentenced Michael A. Yates, 36, to 10 to 20 years after he pleaded guilty to involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and corruption of minors.

Charges of sexual assault, indecent assault and indecent exposure were dropped in plea negotiations.

In addition to the prison time, Yates was also ordered to pay court costs and fees, have no contact with the victim, and provide a DNA sample. He’ll also have to register under Megan’s Law for the rest of his life.

Yates abused the boy for two years, from January 2014 through January 2016, according to court documents.
