The mother of a Montgomery County man found dead last month in Penn Forest Township continues to seek justice for her son.

The body of Jeremy Cosmi, 25, of Souderton, was found at 4:45 p.m. Aug. 14 in the area of 1700 Route 534 in Albrightsville.

Cosmi was transported from the scene by the Carbon County Coroner to the Lehigh Valley Medical Center, where an autopsy was performed.

Carbon County Coroner Bob Miller said no cause of death has been determined yet, and final results will not be available until December.

Cosmi had last been seen at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 in the area of Towamensing Trails Road and Route 534.

Officials previously said he was possibly suffering from a head injury and in need of medical attention.

Several days before Cosmi’s body was found, more than 100 volunteers searched for him in Penn Forest Township.

A free spirit

Annie Cosmi, Jeremy’s mother, said her son was extremely beloved by many.

“Jeremy thrived on togetherness in unity; he was such a chameleon, a free spirit, and loved everyone and his ultimate goal was to bring love, share love, and feel love,” Anne said. “And, I know on many levels he did do just that. His charm was one of his most appealing characteristics.”

Annie said Jeremy touched many people through many avenues of his life.

“Whether it was his sports in which he excelled at tremendously, becoming his team captain in ice hockey and leading them to the championship, or being the goalie of his soccer team, the catcher on his baseball team, to thespian in Shakespearean theater, “The coroner, mayor and scarecrow in ‘Wizard of Oz,’ or simply just playing his acoustic guitar or writing lyrics and making music as he did best, Jeremy has inspired many through his passion with his writing music,” she said. “But above all his courage; he has much triumphs, trials and adversities and he has taught us all strength and how to keep going young and old.”

Without question, Annie said Jeremy’s true talent by far was without a doubt, music.

“But his greatest God-given gift is making everyone feel special,” she said.

Mother seeks justice

Since Cosmi’s body was found, his family and the Albrightsville community are trying to heal, as well as piece together what happened and the events that led to his death.

Stories are conflicting.

According to Annie, Cosmi was with Katie Space and they were in her car headed for the Pocono Mountains.

“Katie and Jeremy were very much falling in love and were pursuing a future together,” Annie said. “This was the goal; he believed they were moving in this direction.”

Annie said that Cosmi texted her at 5:25 p.m. Aug. 7 that he was going to stay with Space in her mountain house that she had up for sale, and then visit the gun range somewhere in the Pocono Mountains.

She said another text revealed that at 2:50 p.m. Aug. 8, Space and Cosmi purchased earth stones at a store as a gift for her.

Yet another text reported that they never went, but instead went into the woods. A video was created showing Cosmi firing off a gun in the woods with a female voice in the background that said, “Babe,” Annie said.

According to Annie, the video went missing after Cosmi went missing and was deleted off a social media site.

She said that at 4:43 p.m. Aug. 9, Space, in a text message, reported that Cosmi went missing, to which she added that he had been missing for 20 hours and was afraid to disclose the truth.

Annie reached out to Andy Rumford, Kacie’s Cause in Chester County, who then reached out to the Pocono Region Kacie’s Cause in hopes of finding Cosmi.

Annie had Pocono Region Kacie’s Cause connect with Space to find out details regarding Cosmi’s disappearance. Space provided information regarding where Cosmi was last seen, what he was wearing and admitted that she should have done something sooner.

The Pocono Region Kacie’s Cause then reached out to state police, and Search and Rescue with many agencies including the Albrightsville Fire Department, was conducted on Aug. 12 at Route 534 and Towamensing Trails Road in Albrightsville. The search and rescue had to be called off early due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control.

Annie extended her appreciation and sincere gratitude for all those who helped in the search for her son.

In addition, Annie said the Albrightsville community posted a search and rescue that was conducted on Aug. 11 and two witnesses — who do not wish to be revealed — reported that they heard a woman scream in the middle of the night around 1 a.m., followed by a bloodcurdling scream from a man in the fields to which Cosmi had fled.

Annie said, “The investigation is very active, and we are still awaiting the autopsy reports and details. No arrests have been made at this time.”

Anyone with leads is asked to call the Fern Ridge State Police at 570-643-1958 as this case is still under investigation.

Annie said, “It grieved my heart to discover the news that my son went missing.

“No parent should ever have to suffer the loss of their child,” she said. “But with faith, the community of Albrightsville became the place of the search and rescue for my son, but wound up being his final resting place of memory.”

Annie added, “In addition, Justice for Jeremy will not cease until this mystery is solved.”

She encouraged anyone to contact her on Facebook and join the vigil at Justice for Jeremy Awareness and #justiceforjeremy. #awareness#poconoRegion.

I feel bad for the mom, but I will bet Jean Englers salary that this young man was bringing drugs to the area.
