Monarchs earn first win

The Carbon Monarchs posted their first win of the season in baseball action over the weekend.

West Allentown-

Carbon Monarchs

Brad Buzzard had two hits, one a double, and scored two runs Sunday to help the Carbon Monarchs earn a 9-2 Lehigh Valley Legion victory over West Allentown.

The win was the first for the Monarchs, who now own a 1-1 record.

Jake Taras added a hit and two runs to the winning effort, while Daniel Keer and Noah Snisky each chipped in with a hit and an RBI.

Mason Goida earned the mound win, with relief help from Justin Mahmde.

For West Allentown, Will Gil had three hits and knocked in a run.

Northern Yankees-

Berlinsville

The Berlinsville Braves received outstanding pitching Saturday, but still dropped a 2-1 Blue Mountain League decision to the Northern Yankees.

Starter Dylan Peiffer and John Yocum combined to allow just three hits and four walks, but the Braves were also stymied by Yankees hurler Gailan Fogarty-Harnish, who allowed six hits and struck out seven.

Evan Marushak had a double and scored a run for the Braves (2-6), while Tyler Kirsten had a hit and an RBI.

Senior All-Star Classic

The Lehigh Valley Soccer Scholar Athlete Foundation held its Senior All-Star Classic on Sunday. The game matched the top senior players from the Colonial League against the top Eastern Pennsylvania Conference seniors.

In the girls game, the EPC posted a 4-1 victory.

Pleasant Valley’s Morgan Covart scored a goal for the EPC, while Bears’ teammate Mikaela Miller shared the goalkeeping duties for the winners.

For the Colonial League, Northwestern’s Abby Chisdak assisted on her team’s only goal. The Tigers’ McKenna Amey was the CL goalie.

In the boys game, the Colonial League picked up a 2-1 win.

Northwestern’s Noah Meyers had a goal for the CL, and teammate Andrew Goodolf added an assist. Northwestern’s Taylor Wanamaker and Palmerton’s Ryan Yacone both saw time in goal for the Colonial League.
